Our Story:
We were an unlikely couple (think Nature Boy meets Party Girl) celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary at a rooftop hotel bar in Santa Barbara. Peter a native of San Francisco loves to be outdoors in the actual wilderness. Sarah enjoys wine in all venues but especially outside at street festivals, concerts, and celebrations like Mardi Gras in her native New Orleans. That night as we sipped our drinks out of crystal glasses we watched a group of party goers drop a glass that shattered right into the hot tub. The bar manager became very distressed and it reminded us of the frustration we felt when we heard the sound of our wine glasses shattering, yet again. This was the moment Wine Outside was born.
Like the young party goers, we had broken countless glasses on our porch, at the pool,and in backpacks on the way home from picnics. Our kids had broken more than their fair share and our dog, Saint, has a knack for knocking over anything in his path. So we started using disposable cups when we would be drinking outside. As a result, we were sipping a lot of nice wine out of cheap and ugly plastic, paper or styrofoam cups. At the end of the day these cups would go straight into the trash and then to the landfill.
It was impractical and dangerous to use glass and we couldn’t find a decent alternative. The unbreakable glasses on the market were either flimsy, cheap looking, cloudy, had ugly writing etched on the bottom, or couldn’t be washed in the dishwasher.
We decided to create the kind of wine glass we were looking for but wasn’t out there. High quality, elegant, and reusable. Wine Outside was born in Santa Barbara CA in 2015
